Newcastle’s Pardew: I was never worried about Ba | Premiership News | Tribal Football

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew insists that he was never bothered about reports linking Demba Ba with a summer departure.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew insists that he was never bothered about reports linking Demba Ba with a summer departure.

The Senegal striker, who has scored 16 goals in 34 appearances for the Toon, was the subject of plenty of interest from clubs around Europe and the UK over the last few months.

Ba had a release clause in his contract that could have been activated prior to the beginning of August prompting some reports to state that the former West Ham United ace could have been on his way out at Sports Direct Arena.

But Pardew has revealed that it was never in his mind that Ba would want to leave the North East club.

“I’ve always been relaxed about it,” Pardew told the Shields Gazette.

“I think Demba’s said all he needed to say – he’s a Newcastle player, and he enjoys playing here.”

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar is confident his new club will do well under manager Paul Lambert.

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar is confident his new club will do well under manager Paul Lambert.

The Dutchman made the move from Feyenoord during the week and has been immediately impressed by former Norwich City boss Lambert who took over from Alex McLeish earlier in the summer.

“I don’t know what he was like as a player, but throughout my conversations with him I could see the mentality he has,” Vlaar said.

“Mentally you have to be very strong, which is very important for the team, and I feel he can achieve a great deal.

“I know what he did at Norwich was great. He has a lot of qualities, and as a group we have to listen and learn, improve every day, and I believe we can do that. Villa has a strong manager going forward into the new season.”

Odemwingie not for sale says West Brom boss Clarke | Transfers | Tribal Football

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has made it vehemently clear that he has no interest in selling Peter Odemwingie.

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke has made it vehemently clear that he has no interest in selling Peter Odemwingie.

The Nigerian striker has often been the subject of a Baggies departure ever since he scored 15 goals during the 2010/11 season with Qatari club Al Gharafa coming in with a £4million bid recently.

But Clarke, who took over at The Hawthorns earlier this summer, insists that the former Lokomotiv Moscow man is going nowhere.

“I think you’re always going to have speculation about your good players,” he told The Express.

“It wouldn’t be football otherwise, especially with it being the summer when the transfer window is open.

“Your good players are always going to be linked with other clubs.

“There was one bid that came in for Peter, but it wasn’t from an English club. We turned it down – and I think that says enough.”

Alan Pardew suggests that Newcastle United will still be able to make some signings during the summer transfer market.

The Magpies boss is after Lille defender Mathieu Debuchy, among others, and even though nothing has happened as of yet, he is confident that chairman Derek Llambia and secretary Lee Charnley will get the job done.

“It’s out of my hands now,” Pardew told the Shields Gazette.

“We’ve done the selection process and put a number of players in front of Derek and Lee, and now it’s about getting the players who can take the club forward.

“It’s never easy at this level. But the one thing I do know is that we’re getting the right noises from the players.

“As has been reported, the players want to come.

“That’s because of the success we had last year – that bodes well.

“It’s just about getting the deals right.”
